Airplane + Lake Michigan + Polarizer = Rainbows???
Apparently this is what happens when you use a polarizing filter looking directly into the blazing sun...

The Details
Last week I posted some random image with some dots on it. That was the first attempt me an Johnathan Foster made at creating a camera obscura out of the 12th floor of Ellingson lounge. This post was supposed to be of the scene the next morning when there was enough light to create an image on the far wall. That however did not turn out as wonderfully as we had hoped. This will be all the detail you will get until we make a second attempt Wednesday.

Best of Underwater
Last Wednesday I took the final for my Underwater Digital Photography class. Now I can go dive wherever I want and take photos of whatever I want. Luckily for me I don't have my own gear and won't be able to give myself a bacterial rash by diving in some nasty pond somewhere. In any case here are some of my better images from underwater photography.

First look at Underwater
After 4 weeks of learning how to dive we were finally handed cameras, now two weeks in with them I have several photos from the deep. I give you one.

Manufactured Landscape Outtake
Passed by this guy while exploring Henrietta for my assignment. He (or she) inspired a new potential project for me...
You know how photographers these days are all obsessed with trying to figure out the human psyche and whatnot? Well they are, so I figured I'd get in on it and try to reveal something about us by photographing peoples animals and get down to them and try to expose their emotion because I feel like animals hide much less than humans and can reveal something about their owners that their owners won't tell or show us.

To Study Jeff Wall
Currently in Fine Art Photography class we have a presentation assignment where groups of three research photographers and then talk about them to the class. My photographer is Jeff Wall. He displays his photographs as transparencies light from behind, this technique makes the photograph really stand out from its surroundings and enhances the color and detail. As I was researching I started to space out and stare out the window when I realized that a window is a perfect "lightbox" with the wonderful late afternoon sun back-lighting the leaves, creating a natural, three dimensional "lightbox"

Gooooooood Morning Henrietta!
My current assignment for my Fine Art photo class is constructed landscapes. We need to shoot landscapes that have been in some way altered by human influence. So last night I decided I would wake up bright and early, 6am, hop on my bicycle and ride around the neighborhoods around RIT. I am shooting strictly film for this assignment so those photos will hopefully be up later this weekend.

2D Progress
This is a mock up for my final prints of my current 2D assignment. This might be what the 3 prints look like when placed over one another. (the quality is not that awesome, photoshop exported it goofy)

Back into the Dark
Today is the first time I have been in the darkroom since high school. I didn't realize how much I missed it until I was back in there. We are currently doing color printing, and it is far easier than I expected. The reason for this is the magic box that processes our print for us. We deal with zero chemicals, so all printing really consists of is properly exposing the paper, the machine does the rest and comes out with a perfectly processed print. I do miss the darkroom smell, though in the end its probably better to avoid those fumes anyways. I think I will be doing more film projects from now on though, it is far more fun as well as relaxing, at least I think so.

Mr. Toad
Remember that shoot I did a while back? The one with that toad leaping off a stump? What ever happened to that guy? Well, he's doing just fine sitting right next me in his newly refurbished terrarium. This is one hobby I did not expect to get into, and probably shouldn't be into as it costs quite a bit of money for supplies. I do enjoy working on his terrarium and have created a working, live one complete with live plants and aquifer so the water has somewhere to drain. Though it isn't what I really want (I would like to have an actual pond, not just a dish thing) it is a fairly decent beginning terrarium, and will probably stay that way until I get money.
